retweetOh, what a night! The official launch party of See
Here in the See Africa Differently team at Comic Relief towers, we decided it was high time we threw a party to properly launch our campaign – and encourage others to celebrate all that’s great about the world’s second largest continent.
Naturally, we invited some of the very best in British-African talent to help us.
Recent Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere did us proud as the charismatic host, with all that children’s TV presenter energy.
The energy went megawatt-tastic as funny-man Eddie Kadi took to the stage with a stand up routine especially devised for the See Africa Differently campaign, encouraging us all to laugh at the common stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding African countries like Ghana and Nigeria. At the end of the night the feeling was unanimous: the man’s a comic genius. It’s easy to see how he sold out at the O2 last year.
Traditional Zimbabwean / pan-African food was served. South African wine was drank. Guinean music was played by Mosi Conde. Bright, modern African fashions were displayed by Africa Fashion Week London. And ‘positive Africa bingo' showcased some of our fascinating facts about progress on the continent.
Thanks to all guests who came with an open mind – and opened their eyes to Africa.
Have a look at our pics from the night on this blog post – more to follow, we promise!
