Traditional practices like wife inheritance and polygamy contribute to high HIV levels in Rangwe, in the remote Homa Bay District of Kenya, and – at least until recently – women had little control over their lives. Living in a community run by men, they had no independence and no way of earning money to spend on food and medicines. Many lived in constant fear of illness.
That was until they got involved in a sweet potato farming project set up by C-MAD. Watch this film to find out how this has helped them transform their lives, so that today they work for themselves and have enough money to provide for their children.
