"The Duduetsang children are the happy recipients of a ‘PlayPump’ – an innovative water source that pumps clean water from underground into a tank whilst they play."
The Magic Roundabout

In sub-Saharan Africa, improved drinking water coverage has increased from 49 percent in 1990 to 58 percent in 2006. This means an additional 207 million people – over three times the population of the UK – are now using safe drinking water.

Children at Duduetsang Primary School in the North West Province of South Africa are especially pleased with their new water source, because it doesn’t just provide them with safe water – it doubles up as a merry-go-round!

The Duduetsang children are the happy recipients of a ‘PlayPump’ – an innovative water source that pumps clean water from underground into a tank whilst they play. It is easy to operate and economical, keeping costs and maintenance to a minimum, and fun at a maximum.

Before they received the pump, the children had to rely on a windmill which often broke, leaving them without water. These days clean, safe water is available all year round. Hundreds of communities and schools in South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zambia have now got PlayPumps, making learning – and living healthily – a whole lot easier.
